Fumiaki Sato Managing Partner, Co-Founder

Fumiaki is a widely considered among the most knowledgeable bankers in the Japanese electronics industry. Fumiaki began his career as an engineer at Victor JVC. He then began a exceptionally successful career as an research analyst covering Technology, first a Kankau Research, and then later Smith Barney and from 1998 Deutsche Bank, where he also served as Head of Research. After predicting the bursting of the IT bubble in 1999, went on to become one of Japan’s most highly decorated analysts, and was voted the No. 1 securities analyst in Japan for an unprecedented 6 consecutive years by both the Nikkei Shimbun and Institutional Investor. In 2007 he joined Merrill Lynch as a Vice Chairman responsible for TMT investment banking. He is the author of the acclaimed “A Scenario for Realignment of the Japanese Electronics Industry”. Fumiaki graduated from the Musashi Institute of Technology (Tokyo).


Atsushi Abe Managing Partner, Co-Founder

Atsushi is one of Japan’s most experienced and accomplished Technology bankers. He started his career in 1977 with Mitsui and Co., and from 1984 was responsible for establishing their IT business group and venture capital businesses in the US. In 1993 he began his career in investment banking with Alex Brown and Sons in San Francisco focusing on Technology sector. Following the acquisition by Deutsche Bank, Atsushi headed the Global Semiconductor team, and later the Asian TMT team. In 2001 he returned to Japan to head Deutsche’s Japan investment banking team. In 2004 he joined the private equity firm JPMorgan Partners (later renamed CCMP Capital and then Unitas Capital) as a partner and Head of Japan. Atsushi graduated from Waseda University (BS) and Stanford University (MBA).


Gary Chan Managing Partner, Co-Founder

Gary is a veteran of the Asian financial markets. Gary began his career as a research analyst responsible for Telecommunications with James Capel (Japan) (later renamed HSBC Securities). After a brief stint at Bankers Trust (Hong Kong) in 1994, he joined UBS Securities (Hong Kong) in 1995, where he was both Head of Asian Telecommunications research and Head of Hong Kong / China research. In 1997 Gary moved to investment banking as Head of Asia Telecom banking team. In 1999, he moved to the Japan office of UBS, where he headed the Japanese Telecom banking team. Gary was most recently the Head of Financial Sponsors group, responsible for private equity clients. Gary graduated from UC Berkeley (BA).


Hideyuki Nakashima  Managing Director

Hideyuki is among the market's most experienced TMT bankers. Most recently responsible for telecom and media coverage at Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities (Tokyo). Focused on TMT banking in Japan since he joining JP Morgan (NY) in 1994. Also led the telecom and media groups at UBS Securities (Tokyo). Full range of advisory and financing experience from M&A, capital planning, business and financial strategy development, and IR advisory. Hideyuki graduated from Waseda University (BA) and University of Chicago (MBA).


Hironobu Wakabayashi   Managing Director

Hironobu is among the market’s most experienced M&A bankers with extensive track record in both domestic and cross-border transactions. Most recently he was responsible for leading M&A business origination and development with a focus on TMT at Morgan Stanley (Tokyo). He joined the Industrial Bank of Japan (IBJ) in 1989, and he started careers in corporate finance at IBJ International (London) in 1993. In 2000, Hironobu transitioned to M&A in the investment banking division of IBJ (Tokyo). He has led numerous landmark M&A transactions while at IBJ and Morgan Stanley. Hironobu graduated from Tokyo University (BA) and London Business School (MSc).
